Visiting Zane in Memphis!

Hi Friends! Been a busy time since Memphis, so I’m a bit behind in posts. We had a fundraiser for LegaStrings last weekend, but one more thing about my trip to Memphis first.

Back on May 12th, 2020, while in treatment for brain cancer at St. Jude, Zane went into a series of cardiac arrests. This was the start of the rest of his decline and it was the peak of Covid. My family came up from Florida but they weren’t allowed in the hospital to see Zane. And I could only see them outside in the roundabout of the parking circle out front. Really tough times.

While in Memphis, my family found this newly installed Heart of Locks art display in the side of a building in Overton Square. They bought two locks. Zane’s was affixed to the heart and mine was attached to Zane’s lock. My brother Ben then took one set of the keys and threw them in the Mississippi River and gave me the other set.

So that was May 2020. Last week I located the Heart of Locks. Still there! With the help of my sister’s super eyesight, she found our locks and I was able to unlock them and rearrange them in a new spot to represent the new arrangement Zane and I now have.

We’re always tethered to each other no matter the shifts.
